FRIDAY, MAR 29, 2019 SKYWRIGHTER A11 ernorMike DeWine was read, congratulating AFIT on its anniversary stating that Ohio indebted to the graduates, the faculty and the staff of AFIT, who have served tirelessly to educate and innovate over the last century in building Select students were presented awards for their exemplary performance during their graduate stud- ies during an awards cere- mony earlier in the day at AFIT.The awards present- ed were: Capt. Dawn Sander- son from theMathematics and Statistics Department was presented the Chan- Award for demon- strating themost excep- tional individual thesis research. Capt. Nicholas Quar- temont from the Engineer- ing Physics Department re- ceived theMervin E. Gross Award for his exception- al academic achievement and high qualities of char- acter, initiative and leader- ship.The award is named in honor of Brig.

Gen. Mervin E. Gross, first com- mandant of the institute. Capt. WilliamDall- mann from the Electrical and Computer Engineer- ing Department received the Louis F.

Polk Award. The winner of this award exhibits the highest stan- dards of academic and professional accomplish- ment and through his or her researchmade a signif- icant contribution toward strengthening the industrial defense base. Capt. Ashlee Ellis, from the Systems Engi- neering andManagement Department received the Edwin E. Aldrin Sr.

Award, presented for display- ing themost exceptional leadership characteristics while in the graduate pro- gram. Master Sgt. Kar- enHarris from the Oper- ational Sciences Depart- ment received the Secre- tary James G. Roche Award for demonstrating excep- tional academic achieve- ment through a combina- tion of grade point average and outstanding research, as well as high qualities of character, initiative, lead- ership and service.
