JOURNAL HERALD Nov. 23, Extortion suspect seeks vocal line-up The attorney for Henry L. Trussell, who is charged with extortion in the Beth Ann Mote kidnapmurder case, has asked that Trussell's voice samples be taken with four other persons in a line-up. The request was one of nine motions filed by attorney Jack H. Patricoff yesterday and Monday in the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on Trussell's behalf.

gave Montgomery week. County prosecutors a 25-minute voice sample last In addition, Patricoff asked for a copy of evidence of testimony before the grand jury which indicted Trussell, permission to inspect all future evidence received by police and prosecutors and tape recordings of telephone messages received by Rev. Doris Mote, Beth Ann's mother. Patricoff is also asking that all evidence received by police and prosecutors be supressed on the grounds it was taken in violation of Trussell's rights against unreasonable search and seizure. Judge John Meagher will hold a hearing on the motions at 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday. Trussell, 33, was released from jail last week after posting $1,000 bond. He was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at a ransom pickup behind his apartment at 1067 Salem Ave.

He is charged with calling Ms. Mote and demanding a $6,000 ransom for her 14-year-old daughter's safe return. Trussell has reportedly maintained he was dumping trash and noticed the bag containing 1 the ransom and picked it up out of curiosity. Beth Ann's body had been found 11 hours before Trussell's arrest. She disappeared while walking to classes at Oakwood Junior High School Oct.

20. Her body was found in a Miami Twp. field Oct. 27. She had been raped and stabbed to death.

Police have said Trussell apparently is not connected to the disappearance or murder, but they accuse him of trying to take advantage of the disappearance in demanding a ransom. Madison farmer killed by tractor A Madison Twp. farmer was found dead yesterday morning, the victim of a tractor accident on his farm at 4591 W. Third according to Madison Twp. police.

The Montgomery County coroner's office said Gerald L. Garber, 48, was found pinned between the wheel and frame of his tractor about 2:30 a.m. by family members who began searching for him Monday evening when he didn't return home. Officials gave the time of death as about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said Garber apparently slipped while trying to operate the tractor's shovel level with one hand and guide a 12-foot post he was setting with the other. They listed cause of death as massive internal injuries. Shepherd withdraws from 3d District race Republican Billy R. Shepherd has withdrawn from the 3rd District congressional race, Montgomery GOP Chairman Frederick N. Young said yesterday.

Shepherd, who challenged Rep. Charles W. Whalen Jr. in last year's primary, has acknowledged his interest in Democrat Ray Wolfe's county commission seat, which expires next year. Whalen is retiring next year.

Shepherd could not be reached for comment. The county GOP's congressional screening committee last night interviewed the final four potential candidates for Whalen's seat. They included Dayton school board member Leo A. Lucas, Dayton school board attorney David C. Greer, former assistant U.S.

Atty. Gen. J. Stanley Pottinger and James E. Rich, executive director of Junior Achievement of Dayton and Miami Valley Inc.

Young said he hopes the screening committee can make a recommendation to the party's executive committee before the end of the year. Energy interests aided senators, study says WASHINGTON (AP) Six senators who are writing a compromise energy-tax bill received contributions from oil and gas interests during their last campaigns, according to a study released yesterday by the Congress Watch lobbying organization. Oil and gas contributions to the six totaled 123, the organization said. The biggest share 181 went to Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, who was elected to a second term last year.

Congress Watch, an arm of Ralph Nader's Public Citizen group, also listed oil-gas contributions of $7,000 to Paul Laxalt, $84,189 to Mike Gravel, D-Alaska; $85,577 to Bob Dole, $55,495 to Russell B. Long, and $6,571 to Spark Matsunaga, D-Hawaii. Greyhounds to run through holidays PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) Greyhound bus drivers and terminal workers will stay on the job through the Thanksgiving holidays even without a new con-, tract if negotiations continue to make progress, a union leader said yesterday. Previously, union spokesmen have said a strike could come by mid-week.

The union would like "some kind of conclusion" before Thanksgiving, said Don Rhodes, vice president of the Amalgamated Transit Union's Greyhound bargaining council. But he emphasized that no strike deadline had been set and that the previous three-year contract is being extended day-to-day as negotiations continue. Union and management officials reported some progress Tuesday in efforts to replace the contract that covers 14,000 Greyhound employes across the country. Negotiators for the union and Greyhound Lines have been working since the union voted Friday to reject a company offer. A union counterproposal was under consideration Tuesday.

As the contract expired Oct. 31, Greyhound offered a $300 bonus, plus cost-of-living and profitsharing benefits, but Owen Jones, president of the bargaining unit, called the proposal an "insult." Union members voted nearly 10 to 1 to reject it and to authorize a strike if talks fail.
